This journey follows the Great West Way® through the landscapes between London and Bath, where the Thames Valley gives way to the open country of Wiltshire and the softened edges of the Cotswolds. Rooted in historic routes once commissioned by England’s kings, the Great West Way® connects grand houses, gardens, market towns, waterways and villages, inviting travelers not simply to pass through, but to linger.

Begin in Hampshire among the restorative fields, farm-to-table rhythms and quietly cultivated beauty of Heckfield Place. Continue into Wiltshire for the ease of country-estate life at Lucknam Park: mornings that stretch, afternoons shaped around a spa treatment, an old village, or a private lesson in horseback riding, and evenings left to unfold as they please.

Along the way, encounter England’s past in its most atmospheric forms: Roman Bath, the honeyed lanes of Lacock, prehistoric Avebury, the Kennet & Avon landscape, and small market towns where the pleasure lies as much in a long lunch as in the road that brought you there. The Great West Way® encompasses celebrated heritage, including Bath, Stonehenge and Avebury, alongside the less expected beauty of the North Wessex Downs, the Thames Valley and the Cotswolds.

Days 1-3

Hampshire A Different Kind of Country House Stay

Your First Day, Thoughtfully Taken Care Of

From the moment your private chauffeur welcomes you, the practical details are already considered. Your journey includes a visit to Hughenden Manor and its gardens, arranged either before check-in or during your Hampshire stay, depending on your arrival time and how you wish to begin.

If you feel ready to explore, enjoy the house and gardens before continuing to Reading for a leisurely pause. Choose a pub or restaurant for lunch, browse around Broad Street, or visit Reading Museum. Lunch is at your own expense, leaving you free to choose whatever appeals to you.

If you would rather settle in first, we will coordinate your arrival with Heckfield Place, requesting early check-in where available, and arrange your included Hughenden visit for another day. There is no need to begin exploring before you feel ready.

Whichever beginning suits you, your first evening is thoughtfully arranged. Settle into your surroundings and enjoy your complimentary welcome dinner—a relaxed introduction to the journey ahead, with nothing more you need to accomplish today.

Days 2–3 — Discover More, Without Doing More Than You Wish

With two full days ahead, there is time to balance discovery with the pleasures of staying somewhere special. We will recommend a considered plan based on what interests you most, arranging the details while leaving space for a leisurely breakfast, an unexpected stop, or an afternoon back at Heckfield Place.

Perhaps your curiosity leads toward Windsor Castle and the surrounding town, or a visit to Highclere Castle when its opening dates align with your journey. You might prefer gardens, a river experience, local craftsmanship, or a day with fewer appointments and more time to enjoy your surroundings.

You do not need to choose from a long checklist. Tell us what draws you in, and we will narrow the possibilities to a few thoughtful recommendations. Some experiences are best arranged in advance; other moments can remain open to how you feel on the day.

After breakfast at Heckfield Place, your private chauffeur takes you into the next chapter of your journey, with an included visit to Blenheim Palace before continuing to Lucknam Park.

Later, arrive at Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa, your country-estate home for four nights. During your stay, a full-day experience with In & Beyond Bath takes you beyond the familiar sightseeing routes and into the Wye Valley.

With a knowledgeable local guide, explore the evocative ruins of Tintern Abbey and the imposing walls of Chepstow Castle, linked by countryside drives and stories that bring the landscape into focus. Along the way, discover a historic village and pause for lunch at a characterful country inn.

There is time to look closely, ask questions, and enjoy the places between the headline stops. Rather than moving through a succession of attractions, you spend the day following a story through medieval architecture, borderland history, and a landscape that invites you to linger.

The day’s placement within your stay is arranged around your travel dates and the wider itinerary, leaving the remaining days comfortably balanced.

The Cotswolds, Shaped Around You

Your stay also includes time in the Cotswolds, where the pleasure is often in the smaller moments: walking through stone-built villages, browsing a shop that catches your eye, finding somewhere inviting for lunch, or pausing to enjoy a view.

We will shape this part of the journey around your interests, recommending a manageable selection of places rather than handing you a long checklist. You might enjoy historic houses and gardens, local makers, or a village-focused day with plenty of time on foot.

Other outings can be woven into the stay if they appeal, a visit to Bath, an exploration of Bristol, or a vineyard experience arranged around your preferences. These are possibilities to personalize your journey, not appointments you are expected to fit into every available hour.

Leave time to enjoy the place you have chosen to stay.

Your journey includes a Hospitality & Wellness allocation of up to $350 at Lucknam Park, giving you flexibility to use it in the way you find most rewarding. Choose a spa treatment, put it toward a meal, enjoy wine with dinner, or settle in for drinks at the bar.

There is no expectation that relaxation must look the same for everyone. If the spa is not your preference, the allocation still offers something to enjoy.

The countryside gives way to London, but the unhurried pace continues. Your journey concludes at The Connaught, an elegant Mayfair address with galleries, boutiques and restaurants close at hand.

Your London stay includes a 90-minute private, expert-led National Gallery tour shaped around your interests. Before you travel, we’ll ask what captures your curiosity, perhaps a favorite artist, landscapes and portraiture, women in art, faith, fashion or the stories behind the masterpieces. The Gallery will use your preferences to create a personal visit, subject to the collection on display and specialist-guide availability. If you’re unsure where to begin, a thoughtfully curated highlights tour offers a wonderful introduction.

Beyond the Gallery, London is yours to enjoy. Return somewhere you love, browse the boutiques, linger over lunch or book a table you’ve been thinking about for months. Your driver-guide remains available, with tailored recommendations to help you make the most of your time.

On your final evening, savor one last memorable dinner with a farewell dining credit, our way of thanking you for entrusting us with your journey. A complimentary wash-and-press service before departure adds another thoughtful touch, allowing you to return home with your clothing refreshed.
