WHY WE LOVE:
CHEWTON GLEMN HOTEL & SPA
We love Chewton Glen for the way it delivers the full English country-estate experience without feeling remote or overly formal. You have the New Forest nearby, the coast within easy reach, and a sprawling estate designed for long walks, garden views, relaxed outdoor time, and complete unwinding.
It is also a hotel that gives guests choices without requiring a schedule. You can be active—playing tennis or croquet, walking the estate, or exploring the surrounding countryside—or do very little at all: linger over breakfast, settle into the spa, read in a quiet corner, and let the hotel be the day’s destination. Chewton Glen’s grounds support activities such as golf, tennis, croquet, fishing, and arranged local experiences, while the spa offers a 17-metre indoor pool and a broad treatment offering.
Most importantly for your Unhurried Voyages concept, Chewton Glen is not simply a comfortable overnight stop. It is a pause built into the journey: a place where the value is as much in unstructured time on the estate as it is in the things you plan to do beyond it.
Overview
Chewton Glen
New Forest, Hampshire
Chewton Glen is a classic English country-house hotel set within 130 acres of Hampshire estate land, on the edge of the New Forest and close to the sea. It offers the feeling of a grand but welcoming rural retreat: long lawns, gardens, woodland, outdoor pursuits, beautifully designed rooms, and one of the region’s most established spa experiences.
This is an ideal place to slow the pace of your journey. Spend the day walking in the New Forest, exploring the coast, visiting nearby market towns, or simply enjoying the grounds; then return for a treatment, a swim, afternoon tea, or a long dinner. The setting makes it especially well suited to a restorative stay between more active parts of your itinerary.
Restaurants & Bars
The Dining Room
Settle into The Dining Room for a polished country-house meal shaped by the season. Its menu moves between long-standing Chewton Glen favorites and newer seasonal dishes, with many ingredients sourced from the hotel’s Kitchen Garden less than 100 yards away.
Begin with a leisurely breakfast, return for lunch after time in the New Forest, or make dinner part of the evening’s occasion. The setting is elegant but not rigid, the kind of restaurant that can feel celebratory when you want it to, while still allowing for a relaxed, unhurried meal.
The Kitchen by James Martin
For a more relaxed, produce-led experience, The Kitchen by James Martin brings the hotel’s garden and culinary life to the foreground. Located elsewhere on the estate, it is a natural choice for a leisurely lunch, a casual dinner, or a cooking-focused experience during your stay. Michelin describes the venue as a place where chefs develop menus and draw ingredients from the garden and greenhouse.
It is particularly well suited to a slower afternoon: good food, a glass of wine, and no need to leave the grounds.
SPA & WELLNESS
The Spa & Country Club
Chewton Glen is as much a place to restore as it is a place to stay. Set within the estate, the Spa & Country Club offers a calm, generous space to slow down between New Forest walks, coastal exploration, and unhurried country-house days. Swim in the 17-metre indoor pool, ease into the hydrotherapy pool, move between sauna and steam, or take a quiet moment in the outdoor whirlpool. In warmer weather, the outdoor pool and sun terrace create a wonderfully relaxed, almost resort-like rhythm.
Your stay includes a $300 spa credit per person, to be applied toward a treatment of your choice from Chewton Glen’s current spa menu. Any difference in cost, additional treatments, or gratuities are paid directly by the guest unless otherwise confirmed.
THE FINE PRINT: Spa facilities, treatment menus, access arrangements, and appointment availability are confirmed by the hotel at the time of reservation and may VARY.
